Internationally known peace and justice spokesperson Cindy Sheehan visited The Naro Cinema Weds. July 15 for an evening devoted to peace, awareness and taking action for the future of the planet. Before Cindy started, Nathan Richardson, a local poet with a national following, performed some of his peace and justice poems for the audience. This was a live appearance by the courageous and outspoken mom who lost her son in Iraq and then camped out in George Bush's backyard in Crawford, Texas during the summer of 2005. Camp Casey effectively jump-started the "Out of Iraq" peace movement. Sheehan has been at the forefront of citizens' non-violent resistance ever since. She ran a fierce campaign for the Congressional seat against Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco in 2008. She came to Norfolk for the first time in her "Myth America" Book Tour and used the topics from her new book, "Myth America: 10 Greatest Myths of the Robber Class and the Case for Revolution" as the focal launch point for a lively evening of revelation and discussion.
