Old Mother Riley - OMR's Budget/OMR Takes Her Medicine (1941) Arthur Lucan played Old Mother Riley on the Music Hall stage, on records, on radio, and Film whilst his wife Kitty McShane played the daughter (at first 'Bridget' on the stage but changed to 'Kitty' later). The first sketch as the old char-woman was Bridgets Night Out which proved successful enough to develope the character further. In 1934 an appearance on the Royal Command Performance established their popularity and celebrity status and in 1936, the couple's famous sketch "Bridget's Night Out' was filmed for 'Stars On Parade' - a compilation film of British music hall acts of the time They also gave Jimmy Clitheroe his big break in 1939 in an Old Mother Riley pantomime called The Old Woman who Lives in a Shoe, and then the following year a part in their film, Old Mother Riley in Society.
